Pete Kelbel joined Capitol Hill Consulting Group as a Legislative Assistant in April 2018, bringing with him experience in the policy and understanding of Capitol Hill. Pete joined CHCG after working the last three years in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Michigan State Legislature.
Pete assists the abundant healthcare team at CHCG, where he works with clients and colleagues to deliver rapid response and real time information on important legislative action and developments in the Executive Branch, such as prescription drug pricing and surprise billing. In addition to healthcare, Pete also assists his colleagues with clients in the agriculture and maritime sectors, fighting major issues such as Chronic Wasting Disease in cervids and protection and indemnity (P&I) insurance roadblocks in the maritime community.
Prior to his tenure at CHCG, Pete worked as a legislative intern in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08), where he assisted the Congressman and his staff with a variety of issue areas, from labor issues to Oversight Committee work.
In January 2017, Pete began his career as an intern at a top tier government relations firm in Lansing, MI. Shortly after, he interned in the Michigan State Legislature for numerous legislators, including the State Senate Majority Floor Leader and the Senate Appropriations Chairman, where he developed a strong understanding of the policy lifecycle at the state government level.
Pete was born and raised in Northern Michigan, where his family still resides, and he holds a B.A. in Political Science from Michigan State University.
